Professional Seminars for Yoga Practitioners

Part I: Legal & Ethical Aspects
The legal, regulatory, and ethical issues pertaining to what constitutes “Yoga Therapy” will be discussed, from both a provincial and national perspective. Basic business practices relevant to the work of a professional therapist, including client-therapist relations, will also be covered. The latest information from the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) will also be reviewed.

Part II: Case-Taking
The basic principles of client intake, assessment, and case-taking will be discussed through the presentation of actual cases. We will look at various models of viewing and following a case that allow for a more dynamic way of exploring what makes each client  and each case unique, and how to best design an individualized approach that addresses this.

Presence in Practice: Awareness Practices for Therapists

This course will explore how we can be more present and responsive to our clients’ needs while respecting our own limits and capabilities. Through various techniques based on meditation principles and somatic exercises, we will experience ways to be more aware of our own body cues and mental patterns to more effectively hold a healing space for others. By allowing ourselves to open to what is arising for both the client – and ourselves – the potential for health and healing can more naturally evolve.

Moving Into Awareness: Meditation on the Five Elements

In many cultures the Five Elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space) are a traditional way to examine how we experience the world. This workshop series will use the framework of the Five Elements as a method to sit, move and live with what is most present for us. This is a foundational meditation practice, the purpose of which is to cultivate our capacity for attention, using a specific framework that enables us to be more aware of what patterns and beliefs affect what we pay attention to – or not. Each week will focus on a specific element and practices that can be done around that: in-class, on your own and in your daily life.

Natural Cycles & Rhythms: Introduction to Natural Birth Control & Fertility Awareness

Curious about a completely natural form a birth control, free of drugs, devices and worry? Want to know how to determine when ovulation has occurred so that you can safely have intercourse without concern of pregnancy –  or to know when is the best time to conceive? Wondering about the effects of different hormones, and how women’s cycles are intimately related to the cycles and rhythms of our lives?

The Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) is a natural and precise sympto-thermal method that helps offer a new perspective on a woman’s cyclical changes, which can be helpful for determining the best time to conceive – or to avoid pregnancy – and also offer insight into how these changes are part of our deeper sexual and creative expression. This introductory course will outline the basic notions of FAM, clarify misconceptions about the practice, and explain when it is and isn’t an ideal method. It is open to anyone interested in learning more about FAM.
